Defender Hanna Glas signs new one-year contract with Seattle Reign FC

Seattle, WA - Our Seattle Reign FC announced Wednesday afternoon that the club has signed defender Hanna Glas to a new one-year contract through the 2025 season, that includes a mutual option for 2026. Prior to the extension, Glas was set to be a free agent following the conclusion of this season. With this signing, the Reign lock up another defender to keep the large majority of their defensive depth in tact, as club original Lu Barnes remains undecided with her future still up in the air.
Glas was acquired on September 2nd from the Kansas City Current in a trade that saw Seattle send Kansas City $10,000 in intra-league transfer funds and additional conditional $10,000 in transfer funds, and made her regular season NWSL debut against NJ/NY Gotham FC on September 16th. She played in seven total games for Reign FC, and recorded 21 duels won, ten interceptions, and nine clearances over 419 minutes with Seattle. The defender first entered the NWSL in 2023 on a two-year contract with the Current, but her debut was delayed after suffering a knee injury prior to the start of the season. She had immediate success in her debut with the Current during the 2024 NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup, where she recorded an assist and helped the club earn a clean sheet against Liga MX Femenil side Pachuca.
Glas is a Swedish national team veteran, and announced her retirement from the national team in October to focus on her club career after dealing with a knee injury. During her playing time with Sweden from 2017-2024, Glas recorded 59 caps and earned both a bronze medal at the 2019 FIFA women’s World Cup and a silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with her team. Before joining the NWSL, Glas also scored six goals in 40 matches with Bayern Munich across two seasons in the German Frauen Bundesliga, and made 19 appearances with Paris Saint-Germain in France over two seasons.
Glas made an immediate impact on Reign FC upon her acquisition, providing consistent veteran depth in the back line that was increasingly important through the team’s many injuries and loans, as Ryanne Brown suffered a season ending injury, while Sofia Huerta and Lily Woodham were loaned out. With a track record of consistency and success already across multiple levels of the game, keeping Glas in Seattle will benefit the team both on and off the field for seasons to come.
